Pigeon

So I decided to model a pigeon based on one of my previous drawings.

I thought it was quite cute and it would be a perfect little character to model.

I found the modelling process quite easy so I won't go into depth about that.

Then I used the existing bird armature in blender to create bones for the model, for me to then animate.

After completing the idle animation I felt that it would be a good idea to start on a walking animation. However, I didn't add any IK limbs before I had already started animating - so when I got to the walk cycle I tried animating without the IK restraints and it looked awful, so

Here's how I fixed it

After I finally completed the walk animation - which was by far the hardest animation because the legs were a very tricky part due to the backwards bend of the knee on birds - so I had to use a video reference which was very useful.
I also found later that I had forgotten to add a follow through to the foot that had just been moved. Essentially this meant that the animation looked like the pigeon magically slid on one foot instead of propelling itself forward using its actual foot.

After this I moved onto a pecking animation - this was very easy and consisted of moving the body and the neck. I did have to fix the feet in places but all in all it was quick and easy.

And lastly I couldn't forget about a flying animation!

I found this one was so fun to do and so easy as well! I loved it so much and hopefully you do too.

Below is a couple of images and a video of all the animations I created!
